Contract variations in Tasmania
What the Residential Building Work Contracts and Dispute Resolution Act 2016 (Tas) asks of a variation, and a form that follows it. Fill it in below — the document uses the TAS wording.
What the law says
- A variation needs a written variation document signed by both parties; where it adds work, it must be in place before that work begins (sections 17–21).
- The document must describe the variation, give the reason when the builder asks for it, estimate any delay, state the price change or how it will be worked out, and say how progress payments are affected (section 18(2)).
- The owner must get a copy within 5 business days (section 20); where a permit needs consent, that consent is attached (section 21).
- The Act applies to contracts over $20,000.

What the document prints for TAS
This is a written variation document under sections 17 to 21 of the Residential Building Work Contracts and Dispute Resolution Act 2016 (Tas), signed by both parties. A copy is to be given to the owner within 5 business days (section 20).
Besides the parties, site, description and priced lines, the form asks for why it is needed, when the builder asks for it; the estimated delay, if the completion date moves; whether an amended permit or approval is needed; when an increase is paid or a decrease accounted for.
